Greetings Racers!
The Virginia Off-Road Series, a Dirty Series of Events production, kicked off with Camp Hilbert #1! RunRideRace was quick to recover from a little wind and rain to keep the show on track! Jeremiah Bishops presence was felt in the Expert/Pro class. The Enduro class saw the largest turnout. Results are listed under our Standings page.
Mike Tyler of YeRenOA video taped the race and is on our site under the Media section.

Qualification Deadline

We had a great time at Hilbert and are excited about the upcoming races from FredEvents, SportsBackers, and Richmond Multisports.  April has three big race days, including the Twisted Tire, which is a classification qualifier.

Remember, to qualify for the Virginia Off Road Series, you need to race a XC level event in your classification (Expert, Sport, Beginner, or SingleSpeed) before May 31st which includes the Twisted Tire or the Camp Hilbert 2.  If you raced a non-enduro class at Camp Hilbert 1, you've already been classified.

If you don't plan on completing an XC race by the end of May, you can still qualify for the series by notifying us of your class through the Competitor Sign-up link on the VORS website by April 15.  This will exempt you from the May 31st race deadline, though you still need to race an XC level race before the end of the series.

Category Scoring Updates

Our first year of putting on the Virginia Off Road Series is showing us how big the Off-Road scene is getting in Virginia. Outdoor Sporting Events are showing up in all sorts of disciplines. And with growth, you need to be able to adapt.

We underestimated the growth in the Enduro Category and we're glad to see it! We originally ruled that Enduro Cat would be overall points with no separation between Men and Women. This was based on last year's numbers, which were much lower in attendance. BUT we are changing with the times and splitting the scoring of overall Enduro between Men and Women.  We hope this will encourage more women to compete in this harder, yet more rewarding category.

The Masters Category, coming out of Camp Hilbert is another challenge. Hilbert scored Masters as one class, whereas other races in VORS splits them between Sport and Expert. This created a bit of confusion and we are working with the race directors to adjust this in future races.  As for those racers involved, we will be contacting them individually with the details.

Off-Road Duathlon Championship and Sport Race
The Championship Race is for the advanced or expert competitors. The 10k run course on Brown’s Island and the canal walk starts the event off (this is a 5k course done twice). The 27k mountain bike course includes the awesome trails of Belle Isle, Buttermilk Trail, Forest Hill Park and the North Trail--basically the same course used for the XTERRA East Coast Championships. The 5k run after the bike goes back to Brown’s Island and the canal. Even though this is a championship it is open to anyone that would like to enter. Sign up at www.duathlonnationals.com.

There is also a Sport Race with a 5k run, 10k bike and 2.5k run at the end. This course takes riders onto Belle Isle, the Buttermilk Trail and back to transition. This race is not only shorter but an easier course. Although the Buttermilk Trail from 42nd Street back to the Lee Bridge is not for beginners. Sign up at www.duathlonnationals.com.

NATIONAL OFF ROAD REGISTRATION INFO

RMS and the Upcoming Twisted Tire

-Laurie Mehler

It’s pint glass time! Twisted Tire mountain bike race (formerly Poor Farm) is April 20th. This is a great spring check point for Xterra or any off road endurance racing. All riders registered this week make the list for the new logo pint glass.

We have added a female category for the enduro 5 hr category due to the increase of tough women out there!

Next official pre-ride April 6.

We are taking volunteers now, just email volunteer@richmondmultisports.com or go to the website and submit your info. We need timing helpers, registration check in table greeters, body markers, awards ceremony assistance, and announcing help to make the day rock & roll!

Reminder that all RMS MTB races are sanctioned by USA cycling, so you will be ranked if you are licensed. Thank you, Laurie Mehler (race director). Any questions at all can come to Laurie@richmondmultisports.com
