Q: Sounds interesting. Do all the race directors races
count towards
series points?
A: Checking the VORS schedule will show you what races count towards
points. The local area has a huge mountain biking base, so all the
races have a mountain biking element, but there are also Dus, Tris,
Adventure Races, and Endurance Events that are qualifying races.
Q: Some of those race formats are harder than others.
How do you
compensate for the different difficulties?
A: The Points Schedule has 3 levels and points are given 15 racers
deep. XC racers could score 100 points by winning their class, while
winning a Mutlisport or Enduro level event will score 150 points.
Endurance level races are another, harder level of racing and get
even more points. The winner will get 400 points, but that will be
divided by how many team members are competing.
Q: How do I determine what category I'm in?
A: Your category will be determined by your first XC level race, but
you MUST race an XC race by May 31st. If you change categories/
classes midway through the season, those races won't count towards
points but the multisport/enduro/endurance races will. Besides Pro/
Expert, Sport, and Beginner for men and women, there is also a
SingleSpeed class for those that like keeping their thumbs free.
Q: I plan on doing Enduro's most of the season and my first XC race was
going to be the Urban Assault after May 31st. Can I still participate
in the Virginia Off Road Series?
A: Yes, you can! You can use our Sign Up page before April 15th to select
your category. You are required to do a XC race to be eligible to place
in the Series.
Q: XC races are broken up in age groups, but the series
isn't. How
does this work?
A: Points will be awards for the top 15 racers in each category
level. All Beginner Men, along with the other classes, will be
grouped together as far as points are concerned, but this doesn't
change the way individual races are conducted. The series is not
broken down by age groups.
Q: Are there any divisions
in the non-XC races as far as how points
are awarded?
A: Yes. Men and women will each be awarded points separately in the
Multisport and Enduro races. Endurance races will be awarded points separately
for Male, Female, and Co-ed teams.
Q: How do I sign up for the series?
A: Racers don't need to do anything special to enter the series.
Just race! We'll do all the work. We do need to put everyone into a
category though, so you MUST race an XC race by May 31 so we know
where to put you.
Q: I got awarded the wrong amount of points. How do I
fix this?
A: We award points based on the official results we receive from the
race directors. If you feel the race results are incorrect, please
contact the race director. If we made a mistake in awarding points
but the race results are correct, please contact us. Please note, we
want to be fair, but our word is final.
Q: I race for a team, is there a team category?
A: Yes. The top 5 points scorers for a team per race will also be
awarded to the team category and the top 3 teams will receive awards
at the end of the season. Again, we award points based on the
results we receive from the race directors. You must register
yourself as a member of your team before each race when signing up.
Race directors may do this differently, so make sure you're
registered properly beforehand. You cannot say you were on a team
after the race is over.
Q: That's a lot of work. Do you guys get to have fun too?
A: We're excited about bringing another level to the local off-road
race scene. Plus, we'll be out there racing too, but the Points
Series directors are not going to get points. If one of us places
well enough to score points, we'll be exempted the the next spot down
will move up.
Q: I'm stoked. When do we get started?
A: Check the schedule.
