The Stampede is set to rock the race scene this year! A huge cycling and music weekend will be centerstage. Nelson County offers incredible off road settings. Horseshoe Mountain fits right in the middle of everything. This mountain bike race will push your buttons. Neutral roll out of the Brewery. Challenging road climb. Kick butt timber trail, singletrack and doubletrack. Rip Rocking descent back to the finish. Bring It On!
The Stampede Mountain Bike race will be part of the NEW Devils Playground Challenge Series and the Virginia Off Road Series! Something for everyone.

The Devils Backbone Challenge was the first mountain bike race held at the award-winning Devils Backbone Brewing Company in 2009. The course is a hybrid using both road and trail. Start off with an escort from the Nelson County Sheriffs Dept as you ascend Brents Gap. Then find your way around some challenging and thrilling trails around Horseshoe Mountain. You finish with a charging descent back down to Brents Gap back to the brewery!
The Devils Backbone Challenge joins with the Festy Experience to make this an action packed weekend. Two days of outdoor experiences include live music and other challenges. Not to be missed!
The Devils Backbone Challenge course for 2010 was a figure 8 style up on Horseshoe Mountain. The race starts and finishes at the Brewery. The start is a rolling neutral lap around the brewery and then heads up Brents Gap. This makes for a challenging start that quickly thins the crowd. Depending on your level the figure 8 had some variance for all to enjoy. The finish back to the Brewery was a bombing downhill!
This course has been known to change slightly from year to year.
Plans for 2011 are in the works!!!
