Welcome to the 2009 Virginia Off-Road Series.

Rules have changed slightly for a more competitive racing environment. Please read them carefully and don’t hesitate to ask any questions.

Overview
Racers will compete in one of seven Race Categories as determined by their gender and ability (Expert, Sport, Beginner) or bike type for Single Speed. A racer’s ability is determined by their XC race level. Race Styles consist of XC, Multisport/Enduro, and Endurance which have different point values and have those points counted towards the point total. A racer’s 7 highest scoring races out of our 20+/- races count towards their total points. Bonus points will be awarded at year end for total number of races for the Virginia Off Road Series season.

***NEW for 2009***

7-Race Points Cap

Racers can race as many races as they want, but only the 7 highest scoring races will be used for their total points. On the racer’s eighth race and subsequent races, the lowest scoring race will be dropped from their points total.
(hint: with Top 7 scoring, if your first is after May 31, 2009, you need to Sign Up in order to qualify!)

Bonus Points
Bonus points will be awarded at the end of the season. The more you race the more your bonus.
Your end of season total points x bonus = overall score!!!

Category Selection / VORS Registration
There are seven VORS racer categories: Expert Men, Expert Women, Sport Men, Sport Women, Beginner Men, Beginner Women, and Single Speed. PLEASE chose the Category that best fits your abilities!

The deadline for VORS registration is May 31st. A racer is registered in their category in one of two ways: either by notifying us by this form or by the first XC level race completed. Until a racer is registered, their points will remain Unclassified. If a racer registers by form, they must race a XC level race before the end of the year to qualify for the Series.

The Category chosen will be that racer’s category for the remainder of the year. If a racer races outside their category in an XC race, those points will not be awarded to the racer. Remember: XC & Enduro are 2 different styles. Some races have XC & Enduro at the same time, racing Enduro will be added to your total points.

Race Styles / Age Groups
Though a racer’s category is determined by their XC category, many race styles are available to race. These include XC (lap-based mountain bike races), Enduro (time based mountain bike races), Mutlisport (more than 1 race discipline such as duathlon, triathlon) and Endurance (races 12 hours or more).

A racer must race at least one XC race to confirm their race category, but can race any style throughout the season to be awarded points.

Categories used by Race Directors may be broken up into age groups. VORS combines all age groups within a category to determine points being awarded.

Points
Points are awarded to the top 15 places in each category for that style of race.

XC: Points are awarded to each category (XM, XW, SM, SW, BM, BW, SS) based on a 100-point scale. Age groups in each of those categories are combined and scored against each other. In the case of “other” categories (such as Clydesdale) they will be combined based on number of laps/gender.

Multisport/Enduro: Points are awarded by gender based on a 150-point scale. Age groups in each of those categories are combined and scored against each other. A racer in the top 15 male, female, and coed RAT teams and Duo-Enduros will be awarded points at the Enduro point scale divided by two.

Exception: Beginner level Multisport races are awarded based on a 100-point scale. This includes the FORDs and NOR-Du beginner races.

Endurance: Points are awarded by gender based on a 400-point scale. Genders for endurance races are: Male, Female, and Coed. Individuals will be grouped together with teams for awarding points and racers will be awarded points divided by number of racers on the team. (Example: If most laps are completed by a 4-person team, each team member will receive 100 points. If most laps are completed by a soloist, that person will receive 400 points.)

Youth Categories Exception: For 2009, the subcategory, High School, for Sport and Beginner will be awarded points in their respective categories. Due to inconsistencies with individual races in VORS, Junior Categories will not be scored for 2009.

Contesting Results: VORS points are awarded based on official race results. If there is a problem with the race results, this needs to be resolved with the race director in a timely manner. If VORS has miscalculated points based on race results, please notify us and we will resolve the issue. Note: If there is no satisfactory conclusion, VORS’ word in final.

Tie Breakers at the end of the season will be determined by:
- Most Races
- Who placed highest in last races where they completed against each other
- Last racer to complete a race

Team Category
Team points will be awarded by the top 5 racers on each team in each race. You must be registered on your team with the Race Director or VORS before the race.

VORS Directors will not accumulate points during the season. For awarding points, they will be eliminated from the results and those below will move up.

The Virginia Off Road Series in not a USAC Sanctioned Event. Race Directors included in the Virginia Off Road Series can chose to individually elect to have their races included in the USAC at their discretion.
