Favorite Race: My favorite race was
the Urban Assault. My good friend and I, Courtney Cotton, were the only
women who raced on single speeds. We came in second and third to last
racing against all men, but it was a blast because we were neck in neck
the whole time. She is a great rider and so this was an enormous achievement
for me!
Do you think riding everyday is over training?
I do not ride everyday. In between my rides, I do Seal Team Physical
Training which is an outdoor exercise fitness program run by an ex Navy
Seal. We run as well as climb walls, do pushups, and have team-based drills
and races.
Do you wear a heartrate monitor and train based
upon heart rate numbers?
I do
not wear any type of heart rate monitoring. But I do believe in good nutrition
as a way to help in training and recovery from long and lactate producing
races. That is why a take a whole food supplement call Juice Plus+ every
day. I have been doing this for a whole year now and have noticed dramatic
increases in my ability to ride in higher gears.
What
got you into mountain biking and then what got you into racing?
The VORS inspired me to race last year in so many different types
of races. I did my first triathlon in which kayaking was involved. And
I have found that the endurance races are my favorite. I also rode more
in wet conditions that I ever normally would since many of the races followed
crazy rain storms.
Would
you consider this a hobby, sport, lifestyle, or occupation? Why do you
feel that way?
Mountain
biking is a lifestyle for me. It is part of my weekly routine. I love
the challenge of the obstacles and conquering them one by one. This year
was the first year I have been able to ride the ramp on North side consistently
and I so love that!
What do you like to do with your time away from
your race/training calendar?
When I am not riding or working as a nurse anesthetist here in
Richmond, I like to travel and to spend time with my two teenager daughters,
Camille and Ali.
