Latest Series of Events - VORS
you gotta race

FEB 26, 2008(Richmond, Va)

Greetings Racers!
The Virginia Off-Road Series, a Dirty Series of Events production, is in full swing. With the first race less than two weeks away, we hope your race wheels are trued and your chain's lubed because the points are going to start adding up soon. A couple of announcements to keep everyone in the loop for the start of the VORS season.

Race Schedule Finalized

Recent talks with Jon Lugbill of Sports Backers has added 3 very important races to the series. A favorite local race, and the only downtown Richmond XC race, the Urban Assault has been added as a XC event on June 14th. Also, Sports Backers is putting on two Off-Road Duathlon races on April 26th, which are new to the area. The Championship race is longer and will be scored at the Multi-Discipline/Enduro race scale, while the shorter Sport Duathlon will be scored at the XC points level. These are guaranteed to be fun and exciting events, so put them on your calendar.

With these additions, the VORS schedule is final for the season. Now with five Race Directors putting on twenty races that count towards the series, start planning your season to get as many points as possible. Remember, the more races you do, the more points you'll accumulate.

The National Duathlon Festival

-Mike McCormick

Price Increase March 1
for National Duathlon Festival

Sign up this week and save $10 on your registration fee for the National Duathlon Festival. The off-road events are on Saturday April 26. “Richmond’s mountain bike course is awesome,” says Mark Junkermann, event director of the Camp Hilbert Mountain Bike Series. “The XTERRA pros love the Richmond trails because they are so rugged. And while you can ride the trails a lot, you rarely get to race them. This is another chance to race them, and it’s a national championships. If you have a good day, then you could win it all. How cool is that?” There are no qualifying times for any of the events.

There is also a sport race for those that aren’t ready to tackle the full championship course. The Junior racers compete on the sport course and the youth race on a course in the general vicinity of the transition area. In addition to the off-road events the on-road championships are on Sunday April 27. For more information go to www.sportsbackers.org

RMS and the Upcoming Twisted Tire

-Laurie Mehler

Are you a Walmart shopper, coupon clipper, or just plain frugal? Early bird entry fee pricing for the upcoming Richmond Multisports events ends this Friday…. Leap day, Feb 29th: Twisted Tire MTB Spring Classic on April 20th, Primrose School Power Kids Triathlon May 31, and HHHunt Power Sprint Triathlon.

The Twisted Tire Spring Cup mountain bike race, formerly known as Poor Farm cup is still at Poor Farm Park, just 15 minutes north of Richmond off of 95 north & RT 54. The course is designed from a maze of trails, different every race. This is what makes Poor Farm Park so unique. The trails were created and are maintained by 2 local mountain bikers, Ed Jones and AC Bruce. This course is great for first timers and beginners as well.

The cup trophy is awarded to the team with the best performances in all categories across the board. There is a minimum of 3 riders per team to be scored. Riders race in their individual categories, and the points for the cup are scored according to overall category placement like a cross country track meet. For example, if a team has riders placing 1st in pro expert men’s, 3rd in sport women’s, and 2nd in junior beginners, the team total points would be 6. If there is a tie, we add in the 4th rider’s place, the more riders you have racing, the better the odds.

There are already pre-rides going on up at Poor Farm on Sunday afternoons. The 6 mile time trial loop is organized by Mark Wood, . Upcoming rides are March 2 and 16th @ 2:30. March 30th there will be a longer course of 10 miles, not recommended for beginners. These rides are time trials to compare your fitness level against yourself. You do not have to be timed, and can even run it if you want. Stay tuned as we will post the course description on www.richmondmultisports.com click Twisted Tire spring cup.

If you cannot race on April 20, but would like to volunteer, email volunteer@richmondmultisports.com . If you are not in the Richmond Multisports race news loop, email 411@richmondmultisports.com . Our mission is to create and produce awesome events that are fun for the athletes, our sponsors, and our crew support. We are open to ideas and feedback. If you have any issues or questions at all, please email race director Laurie Mehler or call the race hotline. Laurie@richmondmultisports.com 804.303.4833. See you at the spring opener April 20th!

Twisted Tire is a great spring launch for xterra or du nats!
